Healthlogistics HL-hybris platform now supported and developed by Sceneric

Best of breed NHS system improved by ecommerce specialists

Moving our platform management to Sceneric has improved its performance and stability as well as introducing a more agile project methodology for the new functionality that we are constantly developing for our NHS customers

Healthlogistics specialises exclusively in e-procurement solutions for the UK healthcare market. Based on world-class product content and eCommerce technology from hybris GmbH, Healthlogistics offers a service ranging from catalogue and contract data to order management and e-Invoicing.

HL-hybris is a Software as a Service (SaaS) platform that automatically translates data into the format required by each recipient, which in combination with outstanding data validation enables true supply chain integration.

19 NHS acute and acute Foundation Trusts have now adopted the HL-hybris eCat catalogue and contract management service. This delivers high quality, validated supplier data directly into each Trust’s purchasing and materials management systems, together with contract prices for each item.

In August 2010, Healthlogistics (www.healthlogistics.co.uk) approached Sceneric to take over the development, maintenance and support of the HL-hybris platform in order to enhance its architecture and the quality and speed of delivery.

Sceneric employed its project management methodology and a team of hybris experts to investigate the platform and take ownership of the code base over an eight week period.

With the code base under Sceneric control, Sceneric employed best practice methodology to improve stability of the code including:

  • Source control including release management and code tagging
  • Continuous Integration with automated builds and code coverage ensuring all checked in code builds and is tested
  • Code refactoring to provide performance gains around validation and search indexing
  • Infrastructure monitoring with proactive management of performance.

In addition, Sceneric has made major improvements to the HL-hybris platform including:

  • Upgrading hybris to version 4.2.2
  • Upgrade and refactoring of Solr search to improve the ability to find items required
  • Development of new B2B eCommerce functionality including standard NHS messaging formats
  • A set of collaboration tools including a wiki, bug tracking and instant messaging to improve development.

Sceneric continues to provide services as the technical partner of Healthlogistics and with these changes in place, the HL-hybris platform will continue in its position as the most modern catalogue and eCommerce system available to the NHS.
